1.Nature of Our Service
Marian Lennon School of Ballet provides dance education and training for children and young adults in a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment. Our mission is to foster a love for dance while ensuring the safety and well-being of all our students.
2. Commitment to Safeguarding
We are committed to protecting children from harm and ensuring their well-being while participating in our classes and activities. We adhere to the statutory child safeguarding requirements as outlined in the Children First Act 2015 and other relevant legislation and guidance.
3. Risk Assessment
We have conducted a thorough risk assessment to identify potential risks to children in our dance school environment. The following procedures have been put in place to manage these risks:
- Supervision: Adequate supervision is provided at all times during classes and activities.
- Physical Environment: Regular checks are conducted to ensure the safety and suitability of our facilities.
- Reporting Procedures: Clear procedures are established for reporting concerns or suspicions of child abuse or neglect.
4. Procedures to Manage Risks
To manage identified risks, we have implemented the following procedures:
- Garda Vetting: All staff members and volunteers are vetted by the National Vetting Bureau before commencing work.
- Child Protection Training: All staff members receive regular training on child protection and safeguarding.
- Code of Conduct: A code of conduct is in place to guide appropriate behaviour and interactions with children.
- Designated Liaison Person (DLP): Marian Lennon is appointed as the main point of contact for child protection concerns.
5. Reporting Procedures
We follow the reporting procedures as outlined in the Children First: National Guidance for the Protection and Welfare of Children (2017). Any concerns or suspicions of child abuse or neglect are reported to Tusla (the Child and Family Agency) and, if necessary, to the Gardaí.
6. Parental Involvement
We encourage and welcome the involvement of parents and guardians in our safeguarding efforts. Information on our safeguarding policies and procedures is readily available to parents, and we seek their consent for activities involving their children
7. Confidentiality
We respect the confidentiality of all individuals involved in safeguarding matters. Information is shared on a need-to-know basis in compliance with legal requirements to protect children from harm.
8. Review and Monitoring
This Child Safeguarding Statement will be reviewed annually and following any significant incidents or changes in legislation or guidance.
