You are about to take your first steps into the wonderful world of dance.

The Marian Lennon School of Ballet aspires to teach children the enjoyment and love of dance. Classes in classical ballet are offered for all ages. Modern dance classes are offered from 7 years upwards. Students can enter examinations in both dance genres.


Teacher Biographies:

Marian Lennon

RAD Teaching Dipl. RAD Mentor CDD Tutor, ISTD, PEAI, NCEF

Marian has had a versatile career in Theatre, Cabaret, Television, and Film, working in Ireland and touring extensively throughout Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. She worked as an exercise consultant for Unislim in Ireland and trained aerobic teachers for the Dance Institute in Athens.

Marian returned to Ireland and completed her Classical Ballet Teacher Training at the National Academy of Dancing, where she received the Royal Academy of Dance Teaching Diploma. In addition, Marian holds the PEAI Certificate in Exercise and Health Studies and the National Certificate in Exercise and Fitness. She also travelled to New York in 2001 to trained as a Rommett Floor Barre teacher.

Marian is a mentor for the Royal Academy of Dance Distance Learning CBTS Programme and a qualified tutor for the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance in Modern Theatre.

Marian has been the Course Director of the Dance Studies Course at Inchicore College of Further Education since it began in 1994 and is also the Head of Ballet for the National Performing Arts School at the Lir Theatre, Pearse Street, Dublin 2.

The Marian Lennon School of Ballet was set up in 1992. Over the last 28 years the School has gone from strength to strength instilling a love of dance and creativity in our young dancers. We are now welcoming the second generation of students, as many of our original pupils are enrolling their children in the school.

Jenny Holman

RAD CBTS, ISTD DDI, NCEF

Jenny has been a qualified teacher with the Royal Academy of Dance since 2009. She started taking ballet classes at the age of 3 where she studied under the RAD method from Pre Primary to Advanced 2 level.

While studying at Inchicore College of Further Education, Jenny completed the Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies (CBTS) in conjunction with the Royal Academy of Dance, London. She also completed the Diploma in Dance Instruction (DDI) with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing and the National Certificate of Exercise and Fitness with the University of Limerick.

Jenny is a part-time fitness instructor in St. Columbas College and has been teaching ballet for the National Performing Arts School for many years. She is also a mum to the cutest little boy!!

Niamh Byrne

BA (Hons) Degree in Childhood Studies, RAD CBTS, LLCM, QQI Level 6 Award in Montessori Teaching.

Niamh’s ballet training began at the early age of 3. She successfully completed all the Royal Academy of Dance Graded Examinations. She continued on to study the Royal Academy of Dance Classical Ballet Teaching Studies (CBTS) at Inchicore College.

Niamh’s passion and skill for classical ballet has seen her perform in many dance productions such as Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Romeo and Juliet. Her love of ballet is evident in her style of teaching. She has been teaching ballet to both children and adults for the past 6 years.

Niamh began Speech and Drama at age 4. In her 15 years with Leixlip Youth Theatre, Niamh achieved all grades with the Royal Irish Academy of Music, receiving outstanding results in each. She continued with her studies and was awarded a Distinction in her Senior Certificate. Following this, Niamh studied Speech and Drama, receiving her LLCM teaching Diploma with London College of Music. Niamh has taken part in a wide variety of musical and drama productions such as Oliver, Pinocchio and Blood Brothers.

Niamh has a BA(Hons) Degree in Childhood Studies and a QQI Level 6 Major Award in Montessori Teaching and is currently teaching in a Montessori School in Dublin.

Emer Wall

RAD CBTS, ISTD DDI, ISTD DDE, NCEF, BA (Mod) Microbiology, PMEP (Primary)

Emer began her ballet training at the age of 4 with the Aeden O’Hagan School of Ballet in Portlaoise. After completing her degree in Microbiology from Trinity College Dublin she enrolled in the full-time Dance Studies course at Inchicore College, training in ballet, contemporary, jazz, and tap. She gained her dance teaching qualifications – the Diploma in Dance Instruction (DDI) and Diploma in Dance Education (DDE) with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance and the Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies (CBTS) with the Royal Academy of Dance. She also completed the National Certificate in Exercise and Fitness (NCEF) through the University of Limerick.

She had the opportunity of taking workshops at the Impulstanz International Dance Festival in Vienna three years in a row from world renowned dancers/choreographers. She was a member of Cois Ceim’s Creative Steps for two years and regularly performed with them around the country.

Emer has previously taught dance for the National Performing Arts School, the Prosperous Academy of Performing Arts, and she also previously owned her own Bollywood dance company for two years.

Emer has also completed the Professional Master of Education (PME) in Primary Education with Hibernia College and works as a primary school teacher in Citywest Educate Together National School.

Silver Swans Royal Academy of Dance
The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) have launched its Silver Swans programme featuring branded ballet classes created specifically for the over-55s and taught exclusively by Silver Swans Licensees. Specially designed for mature dancers, classes help improve mobility, posture, coordination, and energy levels and, most importantly, the love of dance. The Silver Swans initiative has been developed for the older learners so they, too, can take part in ballet classes. Whether you are an experienced dancer, have briefly dabbled or are a complete novice, we welcome all older learners of any ability to try out Silver Swans classes.

Modern Theatre Dance
The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing

The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) is one of the world’s leading dance examination boards. Modern Theatre Dance is a rhythmic dance style which originated in America before travelling to the rest of the world. It is often seen on the stages of musical productions and is known for its theatrical qualities. The style uses travelling steps, high kicks, leaps, and turns which all need strength and flexibility. This is a highly energetic dance style.

The School enters students for the Royal Academy of Dance Graded Examinations and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing Modern Examinations.
Although not compulsory, examinations are encouraged, as they provide students with the opportunity to improve their technique and artistry while gaining in confidence.
