Health and Safety Policy
The Marian Lennon School of Ballet takes seriously their responsibility to ensure the safety of their pupils. All pupils must complete an Enrolment Form when joining the school with clear information regarding emergency contacts and any relevant medical history. A copy of emergency contact numbers will be kept on class registers. In case of an incident – an Accident / Incident report must be made.
Please understand the words “you” and “your” below – to refer (as appropriate) to either “you” as a parent/guardian who has child(ren) registered children to participate in our classes
or
“you” as an adult who has registered yourself to participate in any of our classes.
- It is your responsibility to notify the school of any changes to their emergency contact details.
- You understand that dance is as active an engagement as any sport, and whilst every effort is made to avoid them, injuries can happen.
- Pupils who are registered by their parent(s)/guardian(s) will be supervised during class time only and parent(s) / carers must ensure the safety of their children in the waiting room, hallway, toilets (not applicable during Covid restriction. Children must be supervised in the car parks of Luttrelstown Community Centre and Inchicore Community Sports Centre at all times.
- Parents must be punctual in dropping off their children at the Centre and picking them up after class. Teachers are not available to supervise late pickups.
- You should inform the teacher of any special health considerations or existing injuries before participating in class. Any symptoms of Covid 19 should be included in the Covid Declaration Form.
- Only indoor dance shoes to be worn in the studio to protect the floor and for health and safety
- Pupils should not wear any jewellery as this poses a risk to themselves and others
- No food (or chewing gum) is allowed in the studio. Water is permitted in cap bottles if necessary- teachers will give a water break during class if required.
- You should ensure that the elastics on participants shoes are secure and neither too loose nor too tight.
- You are reminded that in dance teaching the use of minimal appropriate physical contact benefits the student correction of dance technique. (This teaching technique does not apply during Covid 19).
- The Marian Lennon School of Ballet is responsible for the students only in the class / studio.
School policy
- Fees must be paid 7 days before the first class in the term in order to hold your child’s place in the class
- Fees will only be pro rata when a student starts during a term.
- Refunds will not be given for non-attendance and will only be provided in exceptional circumstances.
- Fees must be settled prior to the start of each term or following a trial class where a student enrols mid-term.
- The use of mobile phones in the class is permitted only for emergencies.
- Parents / Guardians are welcome to watch class on Parents’ Day. (This does not apply during Covid 19 restrictions).
- Fees should be paid online through our website. However, if paying fees at the start of a class please give correct amount in cash or cheque in an envelope clearly labelled with your child’s name. If paying by cheque, please make the cheque payable to Marian Lennon.
- Parking is available at Luttrelstown Community Centre and Inchicore Community Sports Centre. Please drive with care in the car parks. Parking is only allowed whilst you or your child are in class.
- The Marian Lennon School of Ballet will use email and text messaging to supply important information about classes and school events. Important information will also be posted on our Website.
- Classes will be delivered on Zoom in unusual circumstances (lockdown, snow days, Centre closure due to other events).
Planning ahead for your child’s class during Covid-19 pandemic
- Dancers are requested to bring their own bottles of water to class
- All children should arrive wearing ballet uniform and ballet shoes inside easy to remove footwear (Crocs etc), and easy to remove clothing such as coat, track suit or dressing gown type clothing. Something quick and easy to remove and put back on!
- At present children are not allowed to dance in bare feet and must wear socks/ tights and ballet shoes.
- Please check temperature prior to joining a class . Adult students are asked to check their own temperature. No student should join a class if they have a temperature or are feeling unwell.
- Bring a yoga mat to each class for your child for floor exercises- please clean this mat before and after class
- Face masks to be worn by students over 12 years of age
- Inhalers must be brought to class in a sealed plastic bag
- We are sorry but no other items: toys, etc. are allowed in the studio.
Procedures for Arrival and Pick-up
- Students should not present for class if they are feeling unwell
- Temperatures will be taken on entering the building [ if required by the management]
- On entering & leaving the building, dancers are required to use hand sanitiser
- Dancers will be required to arrive in practice clothes
- Changing room and toilet access will be minimised
- A one-way system will be in place at the main entrance to facilitate either drop or pick-up.
- Dancers should arrive exactly on time; early arrival cannot be facilitated as cleaning and sanitising of the studio must take place between classes
- Teachers will wash hands and use hand sanitiser between classes
- Children will be escorted to exit for pick-up
- Parents/Guardians and non-dancers are not allowed to enter the building and must wait outside
- Parents/guardians must pick-up on time to avoid any congregation of students outside buildings
- Parents/guardians should maintain social distancing outside the studio while waiting for children
Procedures During Class
- Restricted numbers in classes. Exact class size dependant on studio size
- Within the dance studio, 2 metre spacing (or most recent advised HSE distancing) will be marked out at the barre and in the centre
- There will be a break between sessions so that the barres can be wiped with disinfectant and the room can be aired
Please have patience as this is all new to us all and it will take a few weeks to become routine to us all! I hope these measures can be eased sooner than expected.

The new EU General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) came into force from 25th May 2018.
The Marian Lennon School of Ballet is committed to safeguarding any information held on your behalf.
The Marian Lennon School of Ballet collects personal information from you directly when you contact us with an enquiry on the services we provide. Certain personal information is required as a consequence of any contractual relationship we have with you as failure to provide this information may prevent or delay the fulfilment of these obligations.
You can, at any time unsubscribe from the manner in which I retain the Data on you/your child and have full control over your contact preferences.
In line with the data Protection Regulations (GDPR) all personal data will be deleted should you leave the Marian Lennon School of Ballet.
Data that the Marian Lennon School of Ballet currently holds (not all categories are held for each individual):
- Your First and Last Name ( in the case of Parents/Guardians or Adult Students)
- Your child’s First and Last Name
- Mobile and/or Home Phone Number
- Email Address
- Your Home Address
- Medical information for students where applicable
- Students date of birth
- Your child’s RAD and ISTD Pin Number where applicable [information for examination entries only]
- RAD Examination results
- ISTD Examination results
- DVD and Images of Performances [permission always sought beforehand in writing]
- The information will be used for classes and performances.
- Images for use in marketing materials such as Marian Lennon School of Ballet website, brochures, flyers, and posters.
Sharing of Personal Information with Third Parties
- In general, we do not share your personal information with third parties other than service providers acting on our behalf (for example examination bodies) unless we have a lawful basis for doing so.
- This may mean that we have to share your personal information with these third parties. When we share your personal information in this way, we request documentation that appropriate measures are in place at our service provider to keep your personal information secure.
- From time to time, we may disclose personal information in response to a court order, subpoena, government investigation, government regulatory body, or as otherwise or permitted by law.
- Other situations in which we may disclose personal information to a third party, are:
- Where permitted by law, to protect and defend our rights and property when required by law or public authorities
Information security
- We have implemented generally accepted standards in technology and operational security to protect personal information from loss, misuse, alteration, or destruction.
- We require all employees/ contractors and principals to keep personal information confidential and only authorised personnel have access to this information. We will retain your personal information in accordance with our data retention policy.
- We will retain your personal information in accordance with our data retention policy which set out data retention periods required or permitted by applicable law.
Information transfer
- Your personal information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in a country other than the one in which it is provided. When we do so, we transfer the information in compliance with applicable data protection laws. Where the transfer is to a country outside the EEA, we use the European commissions approved standard contractual laws.
Liability disclaimer
- In preparing this statement every effort has been made to ensure the content is up to date and accurate. We will retain the least amount of data required and send out the minimum amount of emails / contact.
We will delete all the personal data on you and your child should your child leave the Marian Lennon School of Ballet
The Marian Lennon School of Ballet Terms and Conditions for Online Zoom classes.
In order to participate in Zoom online lessons you must agree to the following terms and conditions:
1. Please ensure you read Zoom’s Terms and Conditions and Privacy Notice.
2. Children under 10 years of age should not be left unsupervised at any point in the session. You are responsible for your child whilst partaking in the online class. You will not hold The Marian Lennon School of Ballet responsible for any injury sustained as part of these classes and will encourage your child to stop participating if uncomfortable, tired, sick, or otherwise incapacitated.
3. The Marian Lennon School of Ballet holds no liability for any accidents or damages whilst in your own home.
4. You should be able to provide at least 2 metres of clear, flat floor space for the student’s use. Where no pets, furniture, slip and/or trip hazards can be found.
5. You should ensure the student is wearing appropriate uniform and footwear (No socks allowed) for online classes.
6. You fully understand that as The Marian Lennon School of Ballet are not providing these services in person, we are unable to provide any first aid or safeguarding services.
7. You understand that The Marian Lennon School of Ballet are in no way affiliated with the video conferencing software, and are not responsible for any changes, data loss or software malfunction as a result of using the equipment. You also agree to their separate terms of use.
8. By joining and participating in the online class you adhere to refraining from taking screenshots, recordings and sharing anything from these classes externally (online or privately).
9. By consenting to this agreement, you understand that The Marian Lennon School of Ballet will be recording class participants for Health and safety guidelines.
10. Your tutors are doing their best to deliver content that can be done safely in small, non-dance spaces but please be mindful of any specific risks with the space you are working in. Given the nature of these classes, you participate at your own risk and should only do those activities that you consider safe for your own body and the space that you are working in.

I give permission to The Marian Lennon School of Ballet for the holding of the above data while I am registered in their classes and for this data to be included on the class register and used for communication.
